We are a volunteer-led, not-for-profit medical association of surgeons. Our members and decision-makers are scientists, clinicians, nurses and allied professionals working in all fields of surgery.

We unite over 100,000 scientists, clinicians, nurses and allied professionals across all surgery sub specialties and career stages. Find out how you can become a member of this great surgeon community.

Membership Clusters

Full Membership

Any person holding a postgraduate qualification from a recognized institution in Surgery or related field of Surgery and is registered as a surgeon with the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners' Council shall be eligible for registration as a full member.

Associate Membership

Any person holding a degree in Medicine or Dentistry from a recognized University and is registered with the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners' Council shall be eligible for membership as an associate member subject to the approval by the council.

Auxiliary Membership

Any person with a Diploma and any other qualification in any surgically related field from a recognized institution and is registered by their respective Ugandan council shall be eligible.

The Association of Surgeons (ASOU) of Uganda recognizes and shines a spotlight on the unsung accomplishments of Uganda’s women in surgery.

Of all the women in surgery in Uganda who have passed through the corridors of hospitals, Emergency Rooms, and Operating Theatres, the ones listed are among the most noteworthy still alive to date.

This five-year strategic plan of the Association of Surgeons of Uganda (ASOU) covers the period of 2022 – 2027.

It defines the strategic direction of ASOU as it morphs into a proficient institution, responsive to the changes in world today.

It also spells out the roadmap to the realization of our vision while anchoring our activities in the values we profess as being sacrosanct.

For purposes of this constitution, unless the context otherwise requires, “Association of Surgeons of Uganda” means the institution inaugurated following a resolution of the members of the Association of Surgeons of Uganda at the Annual General Meeting held in Kampala in 1987.

Honorary Membership

Any person who in the opinion of Council has rendered outstanding service to the Association or contributed in a substantial way towards the achievement of any or all of the objectives of the Association may be conferred honorable membership with approval of the General Assembly.

Fellows

The number of fellows shall not exceed ten (10). Fellows shall be elected by the Council from members who have registered contribution to the Association.
